The studies conducted had 468 adults with recent onset of acute bronchitis who were given either placebo or a standard alcohol extract of Pelargonium sidoides 3 times daily for a week. The results showed a significantly greater improvement in symptoms in the treatment group as compared to the placebo group.
To ensure validity, this study was repeated with different amounts of infected adults, and once again the group who were treated with the pelargonium extract recovered much faster than those treated with placebo.
The group who recovered faster were able to return to work in no more than two days without having to worry about being slowed down by illness.
